N271154 December 24, 2015 CLA-2-85:OT:RR:NC:N4:112 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 8503.00.9520 Toni L. Garcia Trade Compliance Manager Nidec Americas Holding Corporation 8050 W. Florissant Ave. St. Louis, MO 63136 RE: The tariff classification of motor laminations from China and Mexico Dear Ms. Garcia: In your letter dated December 3, 2015, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The items in question are referred to as motor laminations. The laminations consist of stamped steel components used in the production of rotors and stators for electrical motors. Each lamination is composed of cold rolled, non-grain oriented electrical steel which are stamped into various circular shapes and sizes, depending on the type and size of the motor they will be incorporated into. They come in thin individual pieces or as several thin individual pieces adhered together to form a stack. The stack is referred to as a core, an armature core, or a lamination stack. The applicable subheading for the motor laminations will be 8503.00.9520, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for "Parts suitable for use solely or principally with the machines of heading 8501 or 8502: Other: Other: Parts of motors." Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
