The tariff classification of compact milling machine parts from China
N361754 June 16, 2026 CLA-2-90:OT:RR:NC:N3:143 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 9018.49.8080 Ismar Ibrahimpasic Prismatik Dentalcraft, Inc. 4141 MacArthur Blvd Newport Beach, CA 92660 RE: The tariff classification of compact milling machine parts from China Dear Mr. Ibrahimpasic: In your letter dated May 22, 2026, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The items under consideration include the F2 Door Assembly, F2 Coolant Trough Assembly, F2 Coolant Intake Assembly and F2 Basin Assembly, which are subassemblies of a compact dental milling machine, Fastmill.io (addressed under a separate cover in NY N361752). A separate ruling will address the F2 LED Assembly. As you noted in your submission, all of these parts do not have independent functions outside of the milling system and are used exclusively for the operation, control or mechanical functioning of the dental milling machine. The F2 Door Assembly is a subassembly of the dental milling machine. It consists of a plastic door that encloses the cutting area and features a window for viewing the restoration process. The door mounts to a multi-piece sheet metal frame, which provides proper alignment and includes features for attaching to guide rails during final assembly. The F2 Coolant Trough Assembly is a subassembly of the dental milling machine that serves as the main reservoir for the coolant. The coolant recirculates through the machine to cool and lubricate the grinding process during dental restoration production. The assembly includes two baskets with mesh screens to filter larger particulates at the coolant entry and exit points. A small metal “flag” interacts with another assembly to detect when the trough is properly inserted. The assembly consists of four injection-molded plastic components and one sheet metal component. The F2 Coolant Intake Assembly is a subassembly of the dental milling machine used to monitor the coolant level and draw coolant from the trough, serving as the intake for the coolant recirculation system. It features a linkage system that mechanically connects to the coolant trough drawer, allowing the level sensor and intake tube to move in or out of the trough as the drawer is opened or closed. This subassembly consists of multiple sheet metal, plastic injection, and buyout components. The F2 Basin Assembly is a subassembly of the dental milling machine that contains the basin, where the spindle and dental material interact and dental restorations are created. It includes a sheet metal housing that secures the basin and mounts it to the main structure of the machine, as well as seals to prevent the coolant from escaping during grinding. The assembly also incorporates belts and pulleys for opening and closing the door that covers the large front opening of the basin. The applicable subheading for the F2 Door Assembly, F2 Coolant Trough Assembly, F2 Coolant Intake Assembly and F2 Basin Assembly will be 9018.49.8080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for "other" instruments and apparatus used in medical, surgical, dental or veterinary sciences, and parts and accessories thereof. The general rate of duty will be free. The duties cited above are current as of this ruling’s issuance. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided at https://hts.usitc.gov/. This ruling does not address the applicability of any additional duties, taxes, fees, exactions and/or other charges, which may apply to the goods discussed herein. This includes, but is not limited to, tariffs and other duties as provided for in Subchapter III to Chapter 99, HTSUS. Thus, for example, in addition to the classification stated above, the merchandise covered by this ruling may also need to be reported with either the Chapter 99 provision under which an additional tariff applies or one of the Chapter 99 provisions covering exceptions to such tariffs.
