Bean, Inc. 15 Casco Street Freeport, ME 04033 RE: The tariff classification of socks from China. Dear Mr. Blake: In your letter dated September 5, 2012, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The sample is being returned as requested. Item 281170, Dry-Stretch Gortex Sock is a pair of socks. The item is constructed of 93% nylon, 7% elastane knit fabric at the front, sides and instep of the sock, as well as, 100% nylon woven fabric at the back leg, bottom, front heel, and toe. The sock is approximately knee-height and features an elasticized 1¾” cuff. You state that the sock is designed to keep the foot dry during a variety of outdoor activities; such as hunting fishing, biking, and kayaking. The applicable subheading for Item 281170 will be 6115.96.9020, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Panty hose, tights, stockings, socks and other hosiery, including stockings for varicose veins, and footwear without applied soles, knitted or crocheted (con.): Other: Of synthetic fibers: Other. Other. The rate of duty will be 14.6% ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
