N209495 March 23, 2012 CLA-2-85:OT:RR:NC:N1:108 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 8529.90.1640 Mr. Frank Alty Hemisphere GPS 4110 9th Street SE Calgary AB T2G 3C4 Canada RE: The tariff classification of a printed circuit assembly for a global positioning system (GPS) receiver from China Dear Mr. Alty: In your letter dated March 8, 2012, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The merchandise in question is a printed circuit assembly (PCA) for a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, which is referred to as the “SBX-4 DGPS Beacon Module.” This printed circuit assembly, which is a part of a GPS receiver, augments a GPS receiver with free accuracy improving correction data from the networks of beacon stations. In addition, this dual channel module provides high performance reception and a wide range of functionality to the GPS receiver. Further, the SBX-4 outputs the industry standard RTCM SC-104 format, which is accepted by differential-ready GPS receivers and can also be configured and monitored with NMEA 0183 protocol. The applicable subheading for the SBX-4 DGPS Beacon Module will be 8529.90.1640, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Parts suitable for use solely or principally with the apparatus of headings 8525 to 8528: Other: Printed circuit assemblies: Of radar, radio navigational aid or radio remote control apparatus: Assemblies and subassemblies, consisting of 2 or more parts or pieces fastened or joined together: Of radio navigational aid apparatus (except radar). The rate of duty will be 3.2 percent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
