The tariff classification of a kitchen timer from China
N196865 January 4, 2012 CLA-2-91:OT:RR:NC:N4:414 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 9106.90.85 Mr. Aaron Cullen CVS On-Site Import Client Liaison Barthco International, Division of OHL One CVS Drive Woonsocket, RI 02895 RE: The tariff classification of a kitchen timer from China Dear Mr. Cullen: In your letter dated December 5, 2011, you requested a tariff classification ruling. A sample of the timer was submitted with your letter and will be returned as requested. The article is referred to as a Hamburger Kitchen Timer, SKU number 873664. The timer is a 60 minutes wind-up kitchen timer composed of plastic material and is in the shape of a hamburger. The timer can be set from one minute up to 60 minutes. Turning the “bun” clockwise to the predetermined number of minutes sets the timer. The timer measures approximately 3 inches high by 2 inches wide. The applicable subheading for the hamburger kitchen timer will be 9106.90.85, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for time of day recording apparatus and apparatus for measuring, recording or otherwise indicating intervals of time, with clock or watch movement or with synchronous motor; other; other; other. The rate of duty will be 15 cents each plus 2.3 percent plus 0.8 cents per jewel. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
