Ruling Text

N094302 March 2, 2010 CLA-2-84:OT:RR:NC:N1:102 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 8483.10.5000 Ms. Toni L. Garcia Emerson Tool Company 8100 W. Florissant Ave. St. Louis, Missouri 63136 RE: The tariff classification of a motor shaft from China Dear Ms. Garcia: In your letter dated February 12, 2010 you requested a tariff classification ruling. Descriptive literature and schematic drawings were submitted. The item under consideration is identified as a motor shaft. The shaft, which is splined and threaded, is made from cold drawn round steel bar that has been fed through a screw machine and then mechanically worked (ground). After importation, this steel shaft is shipped to Mexico where it is incorporated into a finished motor used in a wet-dry vacuum cleaner. The splined shaft holds the armature and transmits rotary motion from the motor to a fan/blower. The applicable subheading for the motor shaft will be 8483.10.5000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other transmission shafts and cranks. The rate of duty is free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
