Box 1199 Williston, VT 05495 RE: The tariff classification of a ceiling fan duster from Taiwan. Dear Mr. Ramsey: In your letter dated September 16, 2008, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The sample which you submitted is being retained by this office. A sample, photographs and description have been submitted for a ceiling fan duster, style number 23935. This item is composed of interchangeable polypropylene dusters, one for dusting ceiling fan blades and a second to reach corners and ceilings. An ABS plastic handle has three aluminum extensions that can increase the reach of the duster from 27 inches to 37 inches or to 47 inches long. All parts and attachments will be packaged sold together. The applicable subheading for the ceiling fan duster will be 9603.90.8050, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Brooms & brushes, mops, hand-operated mechanical floor sweepers, squeegees and similar articles…Other: Other, Other.” The rate of duty will be 2.8% ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
