N035781 September 10, 2008 CLA-2-85:OT:RR:E:NC:N1:112 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 8503.00.9520 Mr. William Micheal Marion Quality Assurance Manager Leppert-Nutmeg Incorporated 113 West Dudley Town Road Bloomfield, Connecticut 06002 RE: The tariff classification of coils for a motor stator from England Dear Mr. Marion: In your letter dated August 14, 2008, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The items subjected to this ruling are diamond coils for a motor stator. The coils contain approximately 55 lbs of copper wire which is insulated using a combination of mica and epoxy resin, and graphite tape. The overall size of each coil is 55 inches in length by 13 inches in height. The coils have a rating of 13.8 kilovolts. The diamond coils will be installed in an 8100 HP (horsepower) motor stator. The applicable subheading for the coils will be 8503.00.9520, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Parts suitable for use solely or principally with the machines of heading 8501 or 8052: Other: Other: Parts of motors.” The rate of duty will be 3%. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
