Sorey Maritime Cargo Services, Ltd PO Box 7355 Chesapeake, VA 23324 RE: The tariff classification of a diesel fuel injector and parts of an injector from various countries Dear Ms. Sorey: In your letter dated June 26, 2007 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of your client SiemensVDO Automotive Corporation. The articles in question are described as a “PCR” injector and its component parts. You indicate that the PCR injector is a piezo actuated valve used to control the flow of fuel into the cylinders of a diesel engine. The injector is controlled by signals from an electronic control unit. The component parts include a valve body, injector body, piston, high pressure connector assembly, throttle module, nozzle assembly and injector drive assembly. The applicable subheading for the complete injector will be 8481.80.9020, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for control valves, with electrical or electro-hydraulic actuators, designed for proportional operation by a signal from a control device. The general rate of duty will be 2 percent ad valorem. The applicable subheading for the valve body for the injector will be 8481.90.9060, HTSUS, which provides for other valve bodies. The general rate of duty is free. The applicable subheading for the injector body, piston, high pressure connector assembly, throttle module, nozzle assembly and injector drive assembly will be 8481.90.9080, HTSUS, which provides for other parts of taps, cocks, valves and similar appliances. The general rate of duty is free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.
