Devon Ave. – Suite 102 Elk Grove Village, IL 60007 RE: The tariff classification of a thrust bearing from Japan. Dear Mr. Dooley: In your letter dated May 31, 2007 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of your client Toyota Tsusho America. The article that you plan to import is described as a thrust bearing, Part Number 047045-1120, which will be used in automotive air conditioner compressors. Descriptive information was submitted. The bearing is used to support the main shaft of the compressor and reduce friction generated by rotation of the shaft. The thrust bearing is a cylindrical roller bearing comprised of 18 individual rollers that are 2.95 millimeters in diameter and 4.7 millimeters in length. The applicable subheading for the thrust bearing will be 8482.50.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other cylindrical roller bearings. The rate of duty will be 5.8 percent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
