Box 3165 Harrisburg, PA 17105 RE: The tariff classification of a mini stereo speaker from Hong Kong Dear Ms. Aldinger: In your letter dated March 26, 2007 you requested a tariff classification ruling. This ruling concerns the classification of a mini stereo speaker. It is identified on the retail packaging label as Rite Aide’s Item # RA#951787. This item (RA#951787) is a mini stereo speaker that is used for music playback. The housing contains two mini speakers within it and a line-in plug on the exterior of the housing. The line-in plug can be connected to a radio, iPod, MP3 player, etc., for music playback. It has an on/off switch with a “power on” indicator light. The item is powered by two “AAA” batteries, not included at time of importation. A sample of the item was furnished for classification purposes and is being returned as per your request. The applicable subheading for the mini stereo speaker (RA#951787) will be 8518.22.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Multiple loudspeakers, mounted in the same enclosure”. The rate of duty will be 4.9 percent. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
