Box 1018 Meriden, CT 06450-1018 RE: The tariff classification of Nylon Membrane Liquid Filters from Japan Dear Mr. Laumann: In your letter dated May 30, 2006 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The imported Nylon Membrane Liquid Filters (style numbers: 045NU, 045ZN and 080ZN) are performing liquid filtration and liquid separation. All may be imported in bulk and cut to size. Based on the description provided, style numbers: 045ZN and 080ZN comprise one layer of non-woven polyester with a thin layer of liquefied nylon polymer coated on both sides. The samples provided indicate style 045ZN may be imported cut to size: 22.2 x 22.2 cm. sheets, when not imported in material lengths. Style 080ZN may be imported cut to size: 47 mm. Disks, when not imported in material lengths. Style 045NU consists of a layer of liquefied nylon polymers. This layer is precipitated into a thin and flexible solid sheet containing micropores. It is either imported cut to size: 22.2 x 22.2 cm sheets or material lengths. The applicable subheading for the Nylon Membrane Liquid Filters when imported in material lengths will be 3921.19.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Other plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of plastics: Cellular: Of other plastics. The rate of duty will be 6.5%. The applicable subheading for the Nylon Membrane Liquid Filters when imported cut to length will be 8421.29.0065, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for filtering or purifying machinery and apparatus for liquids: Other: Other: Other. The rate of duty will be free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
