Dear Ms. Smith: In your letter dated May 12, 2004, you requested a ruling on tariff classification. The merchandise is a number of hardware items for bathroom stall doors. The items include a stainless steel hinge for the door (item 18501), an aluminum hinge for the door (item 10020), a full length bracket to hold the wall panel (item TP19144), a #12x2 pan head sheet metal screw (item 91237), and a #14x1/2” pan head sheet metal screw. The applicable subheading for the bracket will be 8302.41.6045, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for base metal mountings, fittings and similar articles suitable for furniture, doors, staircases, windows, blinds, coachwork, saddlery, trunks, chests, caskets or the like, suitable for buildings, other of iron or steel, of aluminum or of zinc, suitable for interior and exterior doors, other. The general rate of duty will be 3.9 percent ad valorem. The applicable subheading for the hinges will be 8302.10.6030, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for base metal mountings, fittings and similar articles suitable for furniture, doors, staircases, windows, blinds, coachwork, saddlery, trunks, chests, caskets or the like, hinges and parts thereof, of iron or steel, of aluminum or of zinc, other, suitable for interior and exterior doors. The general rate of duty will be 3.5 percent ad valorem. The applicable subheading for item 91237 pan head screw will be 7318.14.1030, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel: threaded articles: self-tapping screws: having shanks or threads with a diameter of less than 6 mm: of stainless steel. The general rate of duty will be 6.2 percent ad valorem. The applicable subheading for item 91187 pan head screw will be 7318.14.5020, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel: threaded articles: self-tapping screws: having shanks or threads with a diameter of 6 mm or more: of stainless steel. The general rate of duty will be 8.6 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R.).
