Chivini Austin Chemical Company, Inc. 1565 Barclay Boulevard Buffalo Grove, Illinois 60089 RE: The tariff classification of (S)-(-)-2,2,2-Trifluoro-1-(9-anthryl)-ethanol, CAS # 60646-30-2, imported in bulk form, from Israel Dear Mr. Chivini: In your letter dated January 10, 2002, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The subject product, (S)-(-)-2,2,2-Trifluoro-1-(9-anthryl)-ethanol, is a halogenated derivative of an aromatic alcohol indicated for use as a pharmaceutical intermediate. The applicable subheading for (S)-(-)-2,2,2-Trifluoro-1-(9-anthryl)-ethanol, also known as 9-Anthracenemethanol, alpha-(Trifluoromethyl)-, (alpha s) - (9CI) will be 2906.29.6000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Cyclic alcohols and their halogenated, sulfonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives: Aromatic: Other: Other: Other….. The rate of duty will be 5.5 percent ad valorem. Articles classifiable under subheading 2906.29.6000, HTS, which are products of Israel may be entitled to duty free treatment under the United States-Israel Free Trade Area Implementation Act of 1985 upon compliance with all applicable regulations. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
