Dear Ms. Novak: In your letter dated May 19, 2001, you requested a tariff classification ruling. You are requesting the tariff classification on an item that is described as a sheath to keep a golf club grip dry when the weather is wet. The product is designed to keep the golf club dry when a golfer finds it necessary to lay a club or clubs on the wet fairway. If the laid-down club(s) were to become wet the golf club grip(s) would be slippery and difficult to hold when used again. A detailed illustration was provided, in lieu of a sample. The product in question, the golf club grip sheath, will be classified in chapter 95 of the HTS as a golf accessory. The applicable subheading for the golf club grip sheath will be 9506.39.0080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for “Golf clubs and other golf equipment; parts and accessories thereof: Other…Other.” The rate of duty will be 4.9 % ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
