The tariff classification of adhesive tape from China.

Washington, D.C. 20003 RE: The tariff classification of adhesive tape from China. Dear Mr. Hopkins: In your letter dated July 25, 1997, you requested a tariff classification ruling. You requested a ruling for four styles of tape. Style 9707a is a self-adhesive hazard stripe tape composed of polypropylene. This tape, which measures 4.8 centimeters in width, will be imported with green and white stripes or yellow and black stripes. Style 9707b is a self-adhesive hazard stripe tape composed of polyvinyl chloride. This tape is 4.9 centimeters in width. The applicable subheading for styles 9707a and 9707b will be 3919.10.2055, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for self-adhesive plates, sheets, film, foil,tape, strip and other flat shapes, of plastics...in rolls of a width not exceeding 20 cm, other. The rate of duty will be 5.8 percent ad valorem. You also requested a ruling on two other styles of tape, style 9707c, a self-adhesive duct tape with a polyester/cotton cloth backing, and 9707d, a tape with a polyethylene base material combined with a polypropylene covering backed with a polyester/cotton cloth backing. Before we can issue a ruling on these styles, we need to know the information requested below. For style 9707c please indicate the type of plastic, and provide the individual weights of the plastic, polyester and cotton. Show the weight of the plastic/textile combination in grams per square meter, and identify the type of adhesive. Please resubmit a sample. For 9707d please show the individual weights of the polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester and cotton. In addition, please show the weight of the plastic/textile combination in grams per square meter, and identify the type of adhesive. Please submit a sample of 9707d. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
