Atlanta, GA 30339-4024 RE: The tariff classification of artist brush sets from China. Dear Mr. Riley: In your letter dated December 5, 1996, you requested a tariff classification ruling. You have submitted the following samples with your request: 1. A set of four professional rounded, fine point artist brushes in various sizes. The brushes, which measure between 7«" and 8«" in length, are comprised of 100% horse hair bristle with wooden handles. They are valued at over $.10 each. 2. A set of four professional chisel tip artist brushes in various sizes. The brushes, which measure between 7«" and 8«" in length, are comprised of 100% hog bristle with wooden handles. They are valued at over $.10 each. The applicable subheading for the artist brushes will be 9603.30.6000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for "Artists' brushes ...: Valued over 10› each". The rate of duty will be 1.9 percent ad valorem. Effective January 1, 1997, the rate of duty will be 1.2 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
