Dear Ms. Cachia: In your letter dated March 22, 1996, you requested a tariff classification ruling, on behalf of your client, Sigma Corporation. The subject item consists of a valve box and its lid. The lid indicates whether it is for a water, gas or sewer connection. It is not a manhole cover. The lids fit both screw type and slip type valve boxes. Both the box and lid are made of cast iron. The applicable subheading for the valve box with its lid will be 7325.10.0050, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other cast articles of iron or steel: of nonmalleable cast iron: other. The duty rate will be free. This item is not subject to countervailing duties or dumping duties at this time. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of this ruling letter should be attached to the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
