Dear Mr. Corboy: In your letter dated June 21, 1991, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The applicable subheading for L-tryptophan (CAS# 73-22-3) will be 2933.90.3900, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other aromatic heterocyclic compounds with nitrogen hetero-atom(s) only. The rate of duty will be 3.7 cents per kilogram plus 16.2 percent ad valorem. This product may be subject to the regulations of the Food and Drug Administration. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
