Crenshaw Tampa, FL 33634 RE: Admissibility of Push Button Knives from Korea Dear Ms. Bouchard: In your letter dated October 24, 1994, you requested a ruling on tariff classification and admissibility of certain push button knives from Korea. The request is being made on behalf of SMS, Inc., Winter Park, FL. The sample knife you submitted is 4 3/4 inches long in the closed position and has a 3-inch blade. There is a slide button in the handle which activates the spring mechanism that projects and retracts the blade automatically. You also submitted copies of catalog pages showing various similarly designed knives. Pursuant to the Switchblade Knife Act (15 U.S.C. 1241-1244) and Customs Regulations 12.95-12.103, these push button knives are prohibited merchandise and cannot be imported into the United States. Sincerely, Jean F. Maguire Area Director New York Seaport
