No. 1722-62-9), in bulk form, from Sweden Dear Mr. Hayward: In your letter dated September 30, 1994, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The subject product, Mepivacaine Hydrochloride, chemically designated as N-(2,6-Dimethylphenyl)-1-methyl-2-piperidinecarboxamide, monohydrochloride], is a local anesthetic. The applicable subheading for the subject product will be 2933.39.4200, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for: "Heterocyclic compounds with nitrogen heter-atom(s) only; nucleic acids and their salts: Compounds containing an unfused pyridine ring (whether or not hydrogenated) in the structure: Other: Other: Drugs: Other." The rate of duty will be 8 percent ad valorem. This merchandise may be subject to the regulations of the Food and Drug Administration.
