Abstract

The United States, as a Party to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), may submit proposed resolutions and agenda items for consideration at meetings of the Conference of the Parties to CITES. The United States may also propose amendments to the CITES Appendices for consideration at meetings of the Conference of the Parties. The eleventh regular meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES (COP11) will be held at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, April 10-20, 2000. With this notice we: (1) List potential proposed resolutions and agenda items that the United States is considering submitting for consideration at COP11; (2) List potential proposed amendments to the CITES Appendices (species proposals) that the United States is considering submitting for consideration at COP11; (3) Invite your comments and information on these potential proposals; (4) Announce a public meeting to discuss these potential proposals; and (5) Provide information on how non-governmental organizations based in the United States can attend COP11 as observers.

The public meeting will be held on July 28, 1999, at 1:30 P.M. We will consider written information and comments you submit concerning potential species proposals, proposed resolutions, and agenda items that the United States is considering submitting for consideration at COP11, and other items relating to COP11, if we receive them by September 7, 1999.
