Harmonization With International Safety Standards

Transportation Department, Coast Guard

Abstract

As part of its ongoing response to the President's Regulatory Reinvention Initiative, the Coast Guard amends its regulations for both inspected and uninspected vessels by removing obsolete, unnecessary or excessive provisions, and harmonizing regulations with international safety standards. These amendments will reduce the regulatory burden to industry by removing differences between requirements that apply to U.S. vessels in international trade and those that apply to similar vessels in international trade that fly the flag of responsible foreign nations.
