Automatic Operation of Aeronautical Advisory Stations (Unicoms)

Federal Communications Commission

Abstract

The Commission has adopted a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) which seeks to permit unattended, automatic operation of aeronautical advisory stations (unicoms) to enhance service to the general aviation community. This action stems from a Petition for Rule Making filed by Potomac Aviation Technology Corporation (PATC). The proposed rules would facilitate more efficient use of previously- allocated radio spectrum, make unicom services more widely available within the general aviation community, and increase safety in air navigation.
