Abstract

This notice announces the fiscal year (FY) competition for Urban/Rural Opportunities Grants authorized under Title III of the School-to-Work Opportunities Act of 1994 (the Act). This notice contains all of the necessary information and forms needed to apply for grant funding in FY 1995. The Departments of Labor and Education (the Departments) also establish final selection criteria to be used in evaluating applications submitted under the Urban/Rural Opportunities Grant competition in FY 1995 and in succeeding years. Urban/Rural Opportunities Grants will enable local partnerships serving youth who reside or attend school in high poverty areas to develop and implement School-to-Work Opportunities intiatives in high poverty areas of urban and rural communities. These intiatives will offer young Americans in such communities access to School-to-Work Opportunities programs specifically designed to address barriers to their successful participation in such programs and to prepare them for first jobs in high-skill, high-wage careers and further education and training.
