The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regulates international trade in certain animals and plants. Species for which such trade is controlled are listed in Appendices I, II, and III to CITES. Any country that is a Party to CITES may propose amendments to Appendix I or II for consideration by the other Parties. This notice announces decisions by the Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) on negotiating positions to be taken by the United States delegation with regard to proposals submitted by Parties other than the United States. The proposals will be considered at the ninth regular meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP9) to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, November 7-18, 1994. It also announces a deadline for public recommendations regarding potential reservations that should be taken by the United States on any listing decisions by the Parties at COP9.
