Personnel Management Office
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is issuing interim regulations regarding the political activities of Federal employees. On October 6, 1993, the President signed the Hatch Act Reform Amendments of 1993. The Amendments became effective on February 3, 1994, and OPM has the authority to issue regulations under the Amendments. The interim regulations will inform Federal employees of the political activities which generally are permitted and prohibited under the Amendments. Federal employees also should refer to OPM's interim regulations at part 733, published in the Federal Register in the February 22, 1994 edition, regarding permitted and prohibited political activities connected with local elections in the designated communities.
