The Energy Policy and Conservation Act, as amended ("EPCA"), prescribes energy conservation standards for various consumer products and certain commercial and industrial equipment, including refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers. In this direct final rule, the U.S. Department of Energy ("DOE") is adopting amended energy conservation standards for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers. DOE has determined that the amended energy conservation standards for these products would result in significant conservation of energy, and are technologically feasible and economically justified.

SUMMARY: The Energy Policy and Conservation Act, as amended (“EPCA”), prescribes energy conservation standards for various consumer products and certain commercial and industrial equipment, including refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers. In this direct final rule, the U.S. Department of Energy (“DOE”) is adopting amended energy conservation standards for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers. DOE has determined that the amended energy conservation standards for these products would result in significant conservation of energy, and are technologically feasible and economically justified. DATES: The effective date of this rule is May 16, 2024. The incorporation by reference of certain material listed in the rule was approved by the Director as of May 21, 2014, and November 12, 2021. If adverse comments are received by May 6, 2024, and DOE determines that such comments may provide a reasonable basis for withdrawal of the direct final rule under 42 U.S.C. 6295(o) , a timely withdrawal of this rule will be published in the Federal Register .
