Dear Mr. Crago: In your letter, dated January 4, 2005, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The merchandise is described as follows: Item C097JA00008 is a snap-off knife (auto lock) with a plastic body mounted with a blade. The knife measures 6.3” x 1.57” x 0.79”. The blade measures 100 mm x 18 mm x 0.5 mm. The knife weighs 0.1 lb. Item C097JA00009 is a snap-off knife (push lock) with a plastic body mounted with a blade. The knife measures 5.4” x 0.79” x 0.47”. The blade measures 80 mm x 9 mm x 0.4 mm. The knife weighs 0.03 lb. Item C097JA00010 is a utility knife with a zinc alloy body mounted with a retractable, trapezoidal blade. The knife measures 6” x 1.42” x 0.79”. The blade measures 61 mm x 19 mm x 0.6 mm. The knife weighs 0.38 lb. Item C097JA00011 is a utility knife with a zinc alloy body mounted with a trapezoidal blade. The knife measures 6.1” x 1.26” x 0.67”. The blade measures 61 mm x 19 mm x 0.6 mm. The knife weighs 0.28 lb. In your correspondence you inquire as to the classification for these knives, each mounted with one blade, and also for replacement blades for these items, which are shipped separately. The applicable subheading for the snap-off and utility knives, each containing one blade, will be 8211.93.0060, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for knives with cutting blades, serrated or not (including pruning knives), other than knives of heading 8208, and blades and other base metal parts thereof: other: knives having other than fixed blades: other (including parts). The rate of duty will be 3¢ each, plus 5.4 percent ad valorem. The applicable subheading for the replacement blades will be 8211.94.5000, HTS, which provides for knives with cutting blades, serrated or not (including pruning knives), other than knives of heading 8208, and blades and other base metal parts thereof: other: blades: other. The rate of duty will be 1¢ each, plus 5.4% ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R.). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
