Higgins Road, Suite 516 Rosemont, IL 60018 RE: The tariff classification of garage door openers from Germany Dear Mr. DeFrance: In your letter dated September 4, 2013 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of your client Marantec American Corporation. The items under consideration are residential garage door openers. The model names are identified as Synergy 270, 370 and 380. The units consist of an electrical transformer, program module, lightening module and a motor unit. These four components are assembled into a plastic housing. The applicable subheading for the garage door openers will be 8431.39.0080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for which provides for parts suitable for use solely or principally with the machinery of heading 8428: other: other: other (heading 8428 encompasses other lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery). The rate of duty will be free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
