N116379 August 19, 2010 CLA-2-85:OT:RR:NC:N1:109 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 8504.40.95 8536.69.8000 Ms. Jane Jewett Talus Corp. 470 Riverside Street Portland, ME 04103 RE: The tariff classification of an international converter/adapter kit from China Dear Ms. Jewett: In your letter dated July 15, 2010, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The merchandise subject to this ruling is an international converter/adapter kit. It is designed for use in international travel to match the alternating current voltage of multiple countries. The international converter converts 220 volts to 110 volts. The adapter plugs provide the user with the ability to plug electrical devices into the electrical outlets in the various countries. You have furnished a sample of Kit # ST-E1002. The sample is being returned to you as per your request. International converter/adapter kit is imported in a ready for retail sale blister pack. It consists of one international converter, Item # ST-E1004, and four international adapter plugs, Item #s ST-E1003-E-UG, ST-E1003-UG, ST-E1003-NA-UG, and ST-E1003-A-UG, and a storage bag. The various adapter plugs are for use in different countries, such as Europe, Great Britain, North/South America, and Australia. In addition to importing the international converter/adapter kit, you have stated that you will also be importing the international converters (Item # ST-E1004) and the international adapter plugs (Item #s ST-E1003-E-UG, ST-E1003-UG, ST-E1003-NA-UG, and ST-E1003-A-UG) individually packaged for retail sale. The applicable subheading for the international converter/adapter kit (Item # ST-E1002) and the individual international converter (Item # ST-E1004) will be 8504.40.95, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Static converters: Other: Other.” The rate of duty will be 1.5 percent ad valorem. The applicable subheading for the individual international adapter plugs (Item #s ST-E1003-E-UG, ST-E1003-UG, ST-E1003-NA-UG, and ST-E1003-A-UG) will be 8536.69.8000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the Unite States (HTSUS), which provides for “Electrical apparatus…for making connections to or in electrical circuits…Lamp-holders, plugs, and sockets: Other: Other.” The rate of duty will be 2.7 percent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
