Cedarburg, WI 53012 RE: The tariff classification of aluminum rail brackets Dear Mr. Boyd: In your letter dated July 24, 2008, you requested a tariff classification ruling. Pictures of the product have been submitted with your request. The merchandise under consideration is described as a “Rail Bracket.” It is an aluminum mounting that attaches onto a wall with two steel screws. It is designed to slide into the slotted portion of an eight-foot aluminum rail. It mounts and supports the rail, which in turn guides and supports a rolling library ladder along a wall of books. The rail bracket measures 2 ¾ inches high by ¾ inch wide by 1 ½ inches deep and weighs .053 pound. The applicable subheading for the aluminum rail bracket will be 8302.41.60, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for base metal mountings, fittings and similar articles…other mountings, fittings and similar articles, and parts thereof, suitable for buildings, other, of iron or steel, of aluminum or of zinc, other. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
