Broad Street Philadelphia, PA 19112-1404 RE: The tariff classification of a USB miniature refrigerator from China Dear Mr. Hoffacker: In your letter dated April 4, 2008 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of your client, Urban Outfitters, Inc. A sample was submitted and will be returned as you requested. The product you plan to import is described as a USB miniature refrigerator, article number 19. This refrigerator is a commercial product made of plastic designed to hold and cool one beverage can. It is powered by a USB port on a laptop or desktop computer and is compatible with Microsoft Windows and Apple computers. The item uses a cold plate that the beverage can is placed on. The chilling is created from a semi-conductor and a fan that draws out the heat from the metal plate. The applicable subheading for the USB miniature refrigerator will be 8418.69.0180, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other refrigerating or freezing equipment. The rate of duty is free. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change.
