Hoffman Estates, IL 60179 RE: The tariff classification of a woman’s cardigan from China Dear Ms. Williams: In your letter dated May 4, 2005 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The submitted sample, style number 1868M, is a woman’s long cardigan that extends from the shoulder to the knee area. It is constructed from 100% boiled wool, knit fabric. The outer surface of the garment measures more than 9 stitches per 2 centimeters in the horizontal direction. The cardigan features a pointed collar, long hemmed sleeves, a full front opening with 7 button closures, 2 front inset pockets in the waist area, and a hemmed bottom. The applicable subheading for the cardigan will be 6110.19.0080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for sweaters…and similar articles, knitted: of wool or fine animal hair: other: other: women’s. The rate of duty will be 16% ad valorem. The cardigan falls within textile category designation 438.
