Worth, TX 76110 RE: The tariff classification of a “Lap Top Protector” from China. Dear Mr. McConnell: In your letter received by this office May 30, 2001, you requested a tariff classification ruling. The sample submitted is a “Lap Top Protector,” which is used to cover a portable computer to protect it from scratches and cushion jarring. It consists of two rectangular shaped textile pads. The pads are made of two textile panels. One panel is constructed of woven fabric which has been coated, covered or laminated with a layer of plastic which is said to be PVC. The textile surface of this material faces outward. The other panel is made of brushed fabric laminated with rubber. The two panels are sewn together. Attached onto one side of each pad are hook and loop fasteners to secure the pads to the computer. The applicable subheading for the “Lap Top Protector” will be 6307.90.9989, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other made up articles . . . Other. The rate of duty will be 7 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
