Dear Ms. Dawley: In your letter dated February 21, 2001, submitted on behalf of your client, Denso Manufacturing Michigan, Inc., located at Battle Creek, Michigan, you requested a tariff classification ruling. You have described your samples, part number 949047-8230 and part number 949047-2290, as screws having hexagonal heads, unpointed ends, threaded, and each tightened by torquing its head. They are used to fasten together various automobile parts and components. They are made of iron or steel and will be imported with two washers attached to each fastener. You further state that each fastener will have an M6 designation. However, neither the shank nor the thread will exceed 5.97 mm. The applicable subheading for both screw assemblies will be 7318.15.6060, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter pins, washers, (including spring washers) and similar articles of iron or steel: threaded articles: other screws and bolts, whether or not with their nuts or washers: having shanks or threads with a diameter of less than 6 mm: other. The duty rate will be 6.2% ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of this ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
