The tariff classification of an intrusion switch assembly from China or Taiwan
NY G85946 January 22, 2001 CLA-2-85:RR:NC:1:112 G85946 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 8536.50.90 Ms. Laura Denny CBT International, Inc. 110 West Ocean Blvd. Long Beach, CA 90802 RE: The tariff classification of an intrusion switch assembly from China or Taiwan Dear Ms. Denny: In your letter dated December 20, 2000, on behalf of Axxion Group Corporation, you requested a tariff classification ruling. As indicated by the submitted sample and information, the intrusion switch assembly consists of a push button switch with a length of wire and a connector. The connector attaches to the motherboard of a PC and the switch is affixed to the processor housing. Removal of the housing cover activates the switch, which subsequently sends a signal that the PC’s security has been breached. The applicable subheading for the intrusion switch assembly will be 8536.50.90, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other switches: Other: Other. The rate of duty will be 2.7 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist David Curran at 212-637-7049. Sincerely, Robert B. Swierupski Director, National Commodity Specialist Division
