NY F82106 February 1, 2000 CLA-2-96:RR:NC:SP:233 F82106 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 9601.90.2000 Sukit Kanaprach 1212 Nuuanu Ave. 2905 Honolulu, HI 96817 RE: The tariff classification of painted lobster and crab shells from Thailand. Dear Sir or Madam: In your letter dated January 5, 2000, on behalf of We Trade International Inc., you requested a tariff classification ruling. The submitted photographs depict the following items: 1. Product A is a plaque consisting of whole lobster, Kona crab or crab shells. The crustaceans are gutted and the shells are dried in the sun, allowing them to harden. The shells are then painted. After drying, they are placed in a wooden or plastic picture frame with a glass cover. 2. Product B is the same as Product A, with small electrical light bulbs added. 3. Product C is the same as Product A, except instead of being placed in a frame, the shells are positioned on rocks or other objects for display. The applicable subheading for the painted lobster and crab shells will be 9601.90.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for worked shell and articles thereof. The rate of duty will be free. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported.
