Chivini Austin Chemical Company, Inc. 1565 Barclay Boulevard Buffalo Grove, Illinois 60089 RE: The tariff classification of 9-Fluoromethanol (FMOC) (CAS # 28920-43-6) from India Dear Mr. Chivini: In your letter dated August 3, 1999, you requested a tariff classification ruling. 9-Fluoromethanol is an aromatic ester of a halogenated acyclic monocarboxylic acid used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. The applicable subheading for 9-Fluoromethanol, also known as 9H-Fluoren-9yl methyl ester of Carbonochloridic acid, will be 2915.90.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Saturated acyclic monocarboxylic acids and their anhydrides, halides, peroxides and peroxyacids; their halogenated, sulfonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives: Other: Other: Aromatic…... The rate of duty will be 8.7 percent ad valorem. The rate of duty in 2000 will be 8.1 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
