The tariff classification of leather golf bags from South Africa
PD C80201 October 20, 1997 CLA-2-42 SE:C:D G02 C80201 CATEGORY: Classification TARIFF NO.: 4202.91.0010 Anna C. Watson Global Marketing 1717 E. Union Hills Dr. #1068 Phoenix, Arizona 85024 RE: The tariff classification of leather golf bags from South Africa Dear Ms. Watson: In your letter dated September 23, 1997 you requested a tariff classification ruling. The items which Global Marketing intends to import are two golf bags with outer surfaces of leather. One is made from "buffalo" leather and the other is made from a combination of ostrich and crocodile leather. The applicable subheading for the golf bags will be 4202.91.0010, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for golf bags with outer surface of leather. The rate of duty will be 5.4 percent ad valorem. It is recommended that you check with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service of the Department of Interior in order to ascertain whether the bags were made from the hides of an endangered species and therefore prohibited or if any other regulations or restrictions may apply. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177). A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. Sincerely, Artis M. Morgan, Jr. Port Director Seattle By: Nancy K. Johnson Supervisory Import Specialist
