Bldg. 1 Wing Ming Street Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon Hong Kong RE: The tariff classification of a cardigan for ladies’ wear from China Dear Mr. Leung: In your letter dated May 11, 2006 you requested a classification ruling. Submitted style B60608/CB6209, manufactured from knitted fabric of 100% cotton, is a long-sleeved, collared, zippered-front garment. Because the zippered placket of this garment is not knit to length, but is cut into two pieces, the applicable subheading for this style will be 6110.20.2079, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for sweaters…and similar articles, knitted…of cotton, other, other, other, women’s…, other. The duty rate will be 16.5 per cent ad valorem. Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/. The cardigan falls within textile category designation 339. Quota and visa status are the result of international agreements that are subject to frequent renegotiations and changes.
